URI Master Gardeners host weekend tour

Noreen Kepple will open up her sanctuary garden at 224 North Main St. in Stonington for the URI Master Gardeners Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29-30.

Kepple will greet visitors in her garden, rain or shine, ready to share science-based horticultural information about best gardening practices and to answer garden based questions. The 26 gardens on the tour are mostly in Rhode Island, but extends from Stonington to Seekonk, Mass.

Kepple earned her Master Gardener’s certificate from URI in 2012 and has been educating the public on best gardening practices ever since. Her garden demonstrates vegetable gardening in raised beds, herbs, container plantings, a small water garden and perennials and natives that attract beneficial insects and pollinators.

“I am an eclectic person with many interests, and my garden reflects my personality,” she said in a release. “Even though my garden is small there is a little something here for everyone and there is a lot to learn from.”

Guidebooks, which serve as admission tickets and include garden descriptions and directions, cost $25 and can be purchased at uri.edu/mastergardener/tour.

The proceeds from this event benefit the URI Master Gardener Program’s public education activities throughout the state and surrounding areas.
