Sunflower harvest
Griswold — Volunteers joined Buttonwood Farm employees in harvesting sunflower blossoms Wednesday for the 16th annual Sunflowers for Wishes fundraiser.
The sunflowers are available in five-blossom bouquets for a $10 donation to Make-A-Wish. The fundraiser, brainchild of Buttonwood Farm owners Kim and Duane Button, opened July 20 and runs through July 28.
In addition to the sunflower bouquets, there are hayrides through some of the 15-acres of sunflower fields as well as a special sunflower ice cream available at the ice cream stand only during the festival.
All proceeds from the fundraiser go to Make-A-Wish and over $1 million has been raised since the Buttons began the fundraiser. On July 30, the farm will open exclusively to Make-A-Wish children and their families for a Wish Family Day.
After the blossoms have gone, the farm's dairy cows will be let into the sunflower fields to graze.
