Giants Neck Heights jetty closed due to high bacterial levels

East Lyme — Giants Neck Heights (jetty) has been posted as closed and swimming in its waters is restricted until further notice due to high bacterial levels, per Ledge Light Health District.

Ledge Light conducted bathing water sampling on Monday, sanitarian Danielle Holmes said in an email, and only Giants Neck Heights in East Lyme and Sound View Beach in Old Lyme were above the bacterial action levels set by the state.

Holmes said resampling on Wednesday showed that elevated levels persisted at Giants Neck Heights, which also was closed for swimming earlier this summer.

Ledge Light has lifted last week's closure of Greens Harbor Beach in New London, meaning it is now cleared for swimming.

Ledge Light conducts weekly water sampling of bathing sites from Memorial Day through Labor Day in East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, New London, Old Lyme, Stonington and Waterford. For the full list of beaches, visit llhd.org/beaches.
