United Way awards $2.2 million to local nonprofits

Ledyard — Dozens of programs hosted by New London County nonprofits will receive a total of $2,196,942 in funding from the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, the board of directors announced in a release Tuesday.

The organization makes allocations after several months of review by local volunteers to analyze the programs' successes and the health of the nonprofits. Programs supported by the grants include legal services, emergency shelters and education.

"We say that Allocations Volunteers are the eyes and ears of United Way donors," President and CEO Virginia L. Mason said in a release. "They ensure that your donation is truly making a difference every day at local nonprofit organizations, helping those in need, and improving community conditions."
