Connecticut Psychological Association names Somers as 2019 Distinguished Legislator

Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, recently was named as the Connecticut Psychological Association's 2019 Distinguished Legislator, according to a news release.

"Mental health is one of the most challenging and important areas for sensible and innovative public policy that requires cooperation between policymakers, experts, providers and patient advocates," Somers said in a statement. "I'm proud to be on the forefront of working with stakeholders to make Connecticut a leader in identifying, treating, managing and de-stigmatizing mental health."

Anne Klee, Ph.D., president of the Connecticut Psychological Association, wrote in a letter to Somers: "It has been a pleasure for us to partner with you on important matters affecting public mental health. As the Senate Ranking Member of the Public Health Committee, you have been a leader in recognizing the importance of access to quality mental health services in our state. You have built a reputation for listening, seeking input and working diligently to get important legislation passed. We are especially grateful for your willingness to consider prescriptive authority for psychologists."
