Rush hour on the river
The U.S. Navy Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Providence (SSN 719) passes the articulated tug-barge Freeport and Chemical Transporter in New London Harbor as the Cross Sound Ferry M/V Cape Henlopen passes outside the channel Monday, November 25, 2019.
The Freeport-Chemical Transporter is home-ported in Wilmington, Delaware and carries chemicals to the Allyn's Point plant in Gales Ferry.
The Providence was the first of the Los Angeles-class to be outfitted with the vertical launch system for Tomahawk cruise missiles, and is the last of the flight II boats in the class still in service and based in Groton.
The Cape Helopen is a roll on-roll off car ferry that originally served as a LST (Landing Ship Tank) and participated in the D-Day landings in Normandy, France in 1944.
