    State police announce DUI checkpoints

State police are reminding residents that beginning on Wednesday and running through Sunday, police will supplement their routine patrol personnel with additional troopers to keep roadways safe.

"Across the state, Troopers will patrol roads and highways across Connecticut focusing on aggressive drivers, unsafe drivers and drunk drivers," the news release states. "All of these violations are causes of motor vehicle crashes in Connecticut and Troopers are dedicated to preventive enforcement in order to avoid wrecks."

State police will be conducting drunken driving enforcement through roving patrols, including in the Troop E area from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Sunday.

There will also be a DUI checkpoint and BAT mobile in the location of Wheeler High School in North Stonington 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday.

Police are asking residents to obey traffic laws by not following too closely to cars around you, buckling up, driving the speed limit, and staying off their cell phones while driving.

"If you plan to consume alcohol, please do not drive; designate a driver for everyone's safety," police said.
