There they are, Miss America hopefuls at Mohegan Sun
The 51 candidates for Miss America 2020 strode along the Shops and Mohegan Sun concourse for the official Arrival Ceremony for the Miss America 2.0 competition Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 at Mohegan Sun.
The annual competition, in its 99th year, moved from Atlantic City, N.J., to Mohegan Sun this year.
After speeches from the current Miss America, Nia Franklin, and various Miss America and Mohegan Sun officials, the candidates introduced themselves to a crowd of media and supporters before signing their name to their state in a giant U.S. map on the stage.
The U.S. Navy Silver Dolphins Color Guard presented the colors and Franklin sang the national anthem to open the festivities.
The candidates will face a series of preliminary competitions over the coming week culminating in the final competition on live TV next Thursday.
Other events open to the public include an autograph session next Tuesday and a red carpet walk an hour before the televised finals.
