United Way seeking volunteers for homelessness census

Ledyard — The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is looking for volunteers in New London County to help conduct its annual count of homeless individuals from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Point-In-Time Count tracks adults and families with children experiencing homelessness. The one-night count, in conjunction with the subsequent weeklong Youth Outreach and Count for counting homeless youth, provide data for state and federal studies on homelessness trends over time.

The counts connect people experiencing homelessness with volunteers who record their needs and connect them with services. Last year's PIT Count found 3,033 people in the state, including 577 children; the youth count found 337 unaccompanied homeless youth and 674 with unstable housing. A full report for both counts is available at cceh.org/pit/data-and-reports.

    Volunteers can register at www.uwsect.org/pit.
