    A note from the publisher

    Dear Readers,

As most of you know, The Day is a locally owned and operated independent media company, part of a vanishing breed in the United States. We are dedicated to delivering local, independent, reliable and accountable journalism.

The Day is owned by a split-interest trust, which operates the company and supports the Bodenwein Public Benevolent Foundation. This arrangement ensures that the newspaper will remain independent and that profits from the newspaper will be distributed to non-profit organizations that help needy children, families and individuals and that support the arts. Since its inception, the foundation has distributed more than $12 million.

In this period of polarization and division in our county it is important that the press remain free and dedicated to protecting our democracy. It is also important that we have the courage to expose wrongdoing, to gather and share information that others might want to keep quiet or out of the public spotlight. Our job is to ensure freedom of information is not just an expression, but a mission to keep our community informed. We work to get information that you would not otherwise see.

This section was produced to show the impact of our work in 2019.

We hope that you will take the time to review it, to appreciate the diversity and relevancy of the work produced by our team of award-winning journalists. We hope that you will continue to support your locally owned independent media company.

Thank you and Happy New Year.
