Stonington crew to row 1 million meters at home Saturday for Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center

Stonington -- Members of the Stonington High School rowing team plan to row 1 million meters (or 621 miles) on rowing machines at their homes Saturday to raise money for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.

The center operates a variety of program such as a food pantry and a tranportation program for seniors.

After team practices were canceled due to the coronavirus, athletes borrowed the team’s rowing machines so they could keep training. Coaches are now providing workouts to the rowers who are training alone but stay in touch daily on GroupMe.

On Saturday, each team member will row a distance of their choice with some planning to row a full marathon of 42.2-kilometers or 26.2 miles.

Rowers are soliciting pledges by phone and email. Donors can also make pledges on the team’s Row-a-thon Page at http://www.stoningtoncrew.org/pnc.
