    Norwich schools expand meal distribution to seven days

    Norwich — The Norwich public school system is expanding the grab-and-go school meals program to seven days, and is adding nine new locations, bringing the total to 27 distribution points, beginning Tuesday, but will reduce distribution days, providing meals for two or three days at a time.

    The meal distributions will continue while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 emergency. Distributions will be held on Tuesdays, with two sets of breakfast and lunch meals provided, Thursdays, two sets of meals, and Fridays, with three breakfasts and lunches provided. The school system also is switching to school buses to carry and distribute the meals through a drive-up system in most locations.

    The full list of locations and times — 15 minutes at each site — is posted on the school website, norwichpublicschools.org.

    New locations are: Moriarty Environmental Sciences Magnet School, 9:30-9:45 a.m., Hamilton Avenue Park, 1-1:15 p.m., Yantic Post Office, 9:30-9:45 a.m., St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 10-10:15 a.m., Palmer Street neighborhood, noon-12:15 p.m., Thames River Family Place, 1-1:15 p.m., Elizabeth Street Park, 9:30-9:45 a.m., Three Rivers Community College, noon-12:15 p.m., and Jenkins Park, 1-1:15 p.m.

    Meal distributions will be held rain or shine.
