Waterford — Harkness Memorial State Park provided a nice little getaway for some fathers and their children, cooped up after days of work and schoolwork at home.

Matt Romano of Gales Ferry was playing tag with his daughters, Matea Romano-Sublett, 4, Doralisa Romano-Sublett, 7, Camila Romano-Sublett, 4, right, and their friends Luis Garcia and his children Leandro, 5, and Annelyse, 8, of New London on Friday.

The fathers said they both worked remotely from home in the morning and wanted to get the kids outdoors to enjoy the fresh air, since they have been staying at home except for necessary trips to places like the grocery store and getting outdoors for hikes and to play.

Romano said the two families have their own play group and have gotten together before and during the coronavirus pandemic, and will continue to do so after the health emergency. He said it's the only treat they have and they have been careful to limit who they see.
