Preston — The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday voted to extend the contract of town and school Finance Director John Spang to June 30, 2022, adjusting the contract dates to match with his contract with the Board of Education.

Selectmen met briefly in an executive session teleconference Tuesday before voting in open session to extend Spang’s current contract by one year to run from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022, the same as his term with the Board of Education.

Spang splits his duties, working 80% of the time on school financial issues and 20% on town finances. His total combined salary is $101,353 for this year, and the contract calls for the school board, selectmen and Spang to negotiate his salary for the next two years, First Selectwoman Sandra Allyn-Gauthier said.

The updated contract is expected to be completed and posted on the Board of Education website by next week, she said.
