Stonington COMO expands child care program

Stonington — The Stonington Community Center has partnered with Stonington Public Schools and the town to utilize the School District Office, formerly Pawcatuck Middle School, to address unmet child care needs of town employees and residents.

The Stonington Public Schools will begin this school year with a hybrid distance learning model, which includes children attending school in person for two days and virtually for three days per week. Using the district office will allow the community center, known as the COMO, to expand its current child care program, which is housed at the COMO’s main building.

The COMO child care program provides before- and after-school care and vacation care during the school year. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the COMO added full day distance learning child care. Experienced COMO staff will assist children with distance learning assignments and classwork on the COMO campus.

Full week and partial week schedules are available. As a licensed child care facility and nationally accredited preschool, the COMO meets and exceeds COVID-19 protocols and expectations established by the CT Office of Early Childhood and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
