New London — City public works employee Tom Quintinwas out at the intersection of Eugene O'Neill Drive at Golden Street on Thursday, repainting the green stripe in the Pride flag street mural.

The mural originally was painted in August but deteriorated quickly from weather and traffic. Quintin, who assisted on the original painting project, says the latex paint initially used did not live up to the manufacturer's specifications. An oil-based paint was being used this time, and being brushed on rather than rolled.

The rainbow flag, with additional black and brown stripes, was painted by the city as a symbol of inclusion. "It's an everybody flag," Quintin said.
