East Lyme — Friday marked another milestone birthday for an East Lyme resident who lived through the last major world pandemic, the 1918 influenza.

A drive-by parade from the East Lyme Senior Center celebrated the 105th birthday of Beatrice "Bea" O'Connell, including flowers and a crown for the birthday queen. O'Connell, who lives with her daughter and son-in-law Colleen and David Gebhard, watched with them and their children, Caitlin and Cameron, from the front yard of their house as her friends passed by.

Afterward, she said a few words to participants, who gave her a round of applause.
