Make a Difference: Thames River Family Program

WHO: Brenda, a young mother with two children: Jose and Jada.

AGENCY: Thames River Family Program transitional housing for homeless pregnant and parenting youth 18-24 years old.

THEIR SITUATION: Brenda came to Thames River Family Program after exhausting all family resources and leaving an abusive relationship. Brenda was parenting Jose, a disabled infant, and delivered a healthy baby girl, Jada, during her residency. Brenda worked hard on maintaining a healthy environment for her children. She managed Jose's care fulltime and flourished as a mother. Brenda was able to improve her self-esteem and life skills while at TRFP. She has transitioned into her own apartment.

WHAT TO DONATE: Jose likes sensory toys, music, and light-up toys; he wears clothing size 2t and shoe size 7. Jada likes dolls, learning toys; she wears clothing size 18 months and shoe size 5. Brenda would like gift cards for groceries, gas cards, and household items.

TO DONATE: Contact Shanda Easley at Thames River Community Service, 1 Thames River Place, Norwich, CT 06360, or call (860) 887-3288.
