Accident causes internet disruption to 120 Groton customers this week

Groton — Atlantic Broadband said accidental damage to a fiber connection by contractors working on a bridge project was at issue for an internet outage to about 120 customers early this week.

Contractors doing excavation work on the Mosher Bridge in Noank for the state on Monday inadvertently damaged Atlantic Broadband’s fiber connection feeding approximately 120 customers, Atlantic Broadband spokesperson Andrew Walton said.

He said a temporary connection restored service to the majority of affected customers within four hours.

“About 40 customers continued to experience an interruption in service until a permanent connection could be established at around noon on Tuesday,” Walton said.

“While the disruption in service was beyond Atlantic Broadband’s control, our team worked diligently to restore service as quickly as possible,” he added.

Atlantic Broadband had announced it was acquiring Thames Valley Communications in January 2020 and the acquisition closed in March 2020.
