New London accepting submissions for city poet laureate

New London — The application process to become New London’s second poet laureate is now open.

In addition to the application form, submissions from the city's poets and writers will require up to 600 words expressing interest in this position, a resume, two letters of recommendation and a work sample. The position is open to city residents only.

Applications are due before or on Feb. 5, 2021. Mayor Michael Passero will appoint the new poet laureate, who will begin a three-year term on April 5, 2021. The position will feature an annual stipend of $300.

The city is excited to continue to celebrate creative expression through literature in its community.

“Serving as the City of New London Poet Laureate has been an honor and a pleasure,” said Rhonda Ward, the city’s first poet laureate. “Collaborations with local organizations and artists, as well as special writing projects for the city helped me to grow in unexpected ways.”

For complete Poet Laureate Program guidelines, eligibility criteria and an application form, please visit the city's website, www.newlondonct.org, or the Public Library of New London's website, www.plnl.org. Applications should be emailed to City Planner Sybil Tetteh at stetteh@newlondonct.org and to NLpoetlaureate@newlondonct.org.
