Poetry in a Pandemic: New Year’s hope
It’s been a year to remember
That we all have each other
As we all fight together for this
world to be better
We wear our masks and wait
for loved ones’ letters
Hoping they are safe
and secure at home
Some of us are on the frontlines
While some of us had to stay inside
waiting for when this will pass us by
Sadly too many people have died
While we wait for vaccines
We all must remember what we’ve heard and seen
It’s been a year to remember
Here’s to a better 2021!
Alyssa Daily, a room service ambassador at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, lives in New London with her fiance and cat. “I was inspired to write a poem about the pandemic after I read one in the New London Times called ‘In the absence’ by Maria Foti,” she said. “I have been enjoying reading the New London Times since we moved here from New York almost two years ago.”
