New London invites public to discuss possible cultural district
New London — The city, in partnership with the Southeastern Connecticut Cultural Coalition, will host a series of three virtual community conversations to discuss the formation of a cultural district.
The first will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. Others are scheduled for Feb. 4 and Feb. 18.
The Zoom meeting can be accessed at http://bit.ly/nlcdzoom; meeting ID is 815 4334 5164, and the passcode is 415810.
The ability for a municipality to create a cultural district was established by state statute to establish a walkable, compact area that is easy for visitors to recognize; a center of artistic and economic cultural activities; and a place in a city or town where residents congregate and visitors may enjoy those places that make a community special.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact City Planner Sybil Tetteh at Stetteh@newlondonct.org and to attend any of the meetings. Visit www.CultureSECT.org or email Wendy Bury at W.Bury@CultureSECT.org for more information.
