    Memories: Shetucket Street

Shetucket Street, pictured in 1915, is busy with horse and wagons, automobiles, and trolleys. The group of buildings on the left survived until the 1980s, when they were replaced by the Norwich courthouse, and the street was renamed Courthouse Square. In the center is The Norwich Savings Society, built in the 1880s, and the Wauregan Hotel with its dome on top. On the right is Banker’s Row. At one time the Norwich Savings Society, Chelsea Bank, Thames National Bank, and many others had their start on Banker’s Row. Today there are no banks left on this street.
