Old Lyme — Hollis and Gery Barry of Essex went birdwatching Friday along the shore of the Connecticut River at Ferry Landing Park.

For a closer look, Hollis was using a spotting scope. She said she frequently goes birding because the species are ever changing. On Friday she had spotted goldeneyes, buffleheads, grebs and mergansers.
