    Memories: Meadows Shopping Center

This photo, taken in 1960, shows the Meadows Shopping Center on Town Street. This was the first shopping mall built in Norwich. A few years later the Norwichtown Mall was built across the street. The land was part of Lowthrope Meadows. The field was dug out to be level with the road. The original tenants were The First National Store, which moved from the Disco Building on Franklin Square, Bastians Store, and the first branch of the Norwich Savings Society. A few years later, a second section of the mall was constructed to the left of this building. The Savings Society moved into the new structure. Today this building is the UCFS Health Center.
