Rep. Anthony Nolan appointed to legislature's juvenile justice committee

Speaker of the House Matt Ritter, D-Hartford, has appointed State Rep. Anthony Nolan, D-New London, to the state's Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee.

Nolan is a New London police officer serving his second term representing the 39th Assembly district in New London. The Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee was created to evaluate policies related to the juvenile justice system and the expansion of juvenile jurisdiction to include individuals 16 and 17 years of age.

Nolan, in a statement, thanked Ritter and said he looked forward to reviewing the state's juvenile justice laws to ensure “justice for all Connecticut residents – especially young people of color who disproportionately end up in the correction system."

“The Black Lives Matter movement, death of George Floyd, protests against racism, and the attack on the U.S. Capitol have revealed the need for change and reform. This year I have introduced legislation to fight racism and inequality and to make right the past injustices against people of color. As a member of JJPOC I will be a voice for those who are often not heard," Nolan said.

Nolan serves vice chairman of the legislature's Appropriations Committee and a member of the Education and Internship committees.

"Anthony Nolan has dedicated himself, as a public official and officer of the law, to improving the lives of young people in his community," Ritter said in a statement. "He brings years of experience and perspective to JJPOC. Anthony's clear voice will guide juvenile justice policy in the state."
