Airport mosaics ‘Take Flight’ at airport
Groton-New London Airport will be the site of a spring exhibit titled “Take Flight,” featuring aviation-inspired, colorful mosaic tiles handcrafted by local artists Paul and Esther
Halferty of Lilywork Artisan Tile in Stonington.
The exhibit will be on view from now through June 30, and is coordinated by the Southeastern CT Cultural Coalition. “Take Flight” explores pioneering people, their breakthroughs, and the inspiration that led to the world of flight we know today. Each mosaic depicts a specific moment in aviation history, from hot air balloons to gliders, and from passenger planes to space shuttles.
The Art at the Airport program showcases local history, industry, culture and geography in the airport’s main terminal at 155 Tower Ave. in Groton. It is done in partnership with the cultural coalition, Groton Public Library and the Connecticut Airport Authority, which operates Groton-New London Airport. The terminal is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
