Old Lyme food share garden campaign nears completion

Old Lyme — The perimeter of the planned Lyme-Old Lyme Food Share Garden was staked out earlier this month at Town Woods Park as part of a plan to have fresh produce available for food pantries by 2022.

Organizers hope to raise $7,500 through a crowdsourcing campaign by May 26. The goal will allow the group to receive a matching grant from Sustainable CT. Food garden president Jim Ward said Monday the group was about $800 short of its target.

The funds will be used on needs such as the installation of an 8-foot fence to protect future plants from deer and rodents along with tools and other equipment needed to prepare the garden beds for planting next year.

All produce from the garden will be donated to area food pantries and food banks. To donate to the Lyme-Old Lyme Food Share Garden, visit patronicity.com/lolfsg.
