Open Air art at Avery Point
Groton — Artist Matthew Weber of Farmington works on installing his sculptures along the walking path at UConn Avery Point on Monday, June 7, 2021. The three cast sculptures are made of pigmented and stained cement inspired by geological rock formations.
"This is the one of the hardest parts of the whole process," Weber said as he worked. "Getting them into place."
The pieces are part of the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art's upcoming Open Air 2021. This is the second year for the outdoor art show, which was started as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the summer of 2020.
"We had a record-setting number of visitors to our show last year so we want to keep that going," said Charlotte Gray, curator and director of the gallery.
This year's show features six artists and an evening video art show later in the summer.
