Stonington — Beclan Pond, 6, of Pawcatuck was having lunch with his father, Tim, at Cannon Square in Stonington Borough during his lunch break Tuesday while attending New England Science & Sailing summer camp.
The cannon is one of two in the park that residents used to fend off a British naval attack in the Battle of Stonington of August 1814 during the War of 1812.
