Data collectors begin revaluation in Waterford

Waterford — Data collectors from Vision Government Solutions will be visiting residential properties beginning the week of Oct. 11 in Quaker Hill.

The data collection is part of the town's 2022 revaluation and is expected to continue through the spring and early summer of next year.

Required by the state every five years, a revaluation is conducted to secure a more equitable distribution of the tax burden, to bring the assessment of properties up to date and to modernize assessment procedures, said the Assessor's Office in a press release. The program is also intended to eliminate inequities that may have developed since the last revaluation.

The revaluation project will establish market value as of Oct. 1, 2022, and will be reflected in the tax bill issued in the summer of 2023.

Residents should have already received residential real estate data mailer forms by mail. Starting this week, data collectors will visit all properties where changes have been indicated on the returned mailers or data forms were not returned. They will also visit properties recently sold or which have open building permits.

All data collectors will carry a letter of identification from the Assessor's Office and a photo identification badge. All property owners and tenants are requested to cooperate with data collectors to ensure the revaluation project has accurate information.

Property owners with questions about the revaluation program may call the Assessor's Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (860) 444-5820. Additional information regarding the 2022 evaluation project, including a list of frequently asked questions, can be found on the assessor's page of the town website at www.waterfordct.org/assessor.
