The annual Gales Ferry/Ledyard Crop Hunger Walk is being held on Sunday, Oct. 17. The money raised from this fundraiser helps fight food insecurity abroad and locally as well. About 75% of the funds raised go to Church World Service and 25% to the Gemma Moran Food Center in New London.

The walk starts at the United Methodist Church in Gales Ferry at 1 p.m. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. Go to https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/galesferryct to join or donate to one of the teams participating from this area. The teams are: United Methodist Church, St. David’s Episcopal Church, St. Luke Lutheran Church (Gales Ferry), St. James Episcopal Church (Preston), Grace Episcopal Church (Yantic), Ledyard Congregational Church, and St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church (Charlestown, R.I.)

To help support the crop hunger walk this year, one of the businesses along the walking route, Pop’s Ice Cream at 39 Military Highway, will be donating a percent of sales purchased between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
