Groton — Volunteer Veronica Hoard leads a tour Saturday during a First Day Hike at Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park.

This was the first year the park — where the Revolutionary War Battle of Groton Heights occurred on Sept. 6, 1781 — participated in the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection program, which had activities across the state on New Year's Day.
