Winter is finally arriving here on Friday, with snow expected in many parts of Connecticut.

The region saw rain Wednesday but that was forecast to give way to partly sunny skies and high temperatures about 40 on Thursday, but snow was forecast to hit early Friday morning.

Gary Lessor, chief meteorologist with the Western Connecticut State University Connecticut Weather Center, said while a major snow event is not expected, the snow may come at a time that leads to some school cancellations or delays.

The snow is forecast to start after midnight on Friday but end by noon, leaving behind anywhere from 1 to 4 inches before it turns partly sunny and windy. Gusts could be in the range of 34 to 40 miles per hour.
