Norwich Sea Unicorns team announces front office promotions

Norwich — The Norwich Sea Unicorns promoted two veteran full-time staff members to positions of general manager and assistant general manager this week.

Lee Walter Jr. was named team general manager and Heather Bartlett was named assistant general manager in advance of the 2022 baseball season. The Sea Unicorns, a summer collegiate team, plays in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Walter most recently served as the director of business development and stadium operations, while Bartlett had been the director of concessions and merchandise. The promotions of Walter and Bartlett followed the departure of longtime front office executives C.J. Knudsen and Dave Schermerhorn at different times during the 2021 transition from minor league baseball to the Futures League. Both went to the Vermont Lake Monsters, also in the Futures League.

Walter, a native of Waterbury, joined the front office of the Norwich team — then the Connecticut Tigers — in November 2018 following three seasons as a game day employee. Bartlett, a native of Franklin and Norwich Free Academy graduate, has been employed by teams at Dodd Stadium since the inaugural season of 1995.

The promotions were announced by team consultant Jay Miller, who has been serving as interim general manager since fall.

“When I spent some time here in the fall helping with the organization, it became clear that the choice for these positions was to promote from within with loyal employees who have worked extremely hard under very tough circumstances,” Miller said in a news release. “There are many good things happening with some changes at the stadium, and these promotions are another great thing that is happening for this organization.”

Walter said he was “extremely excited” at the new position and thanked Miller and team ownership for the confidence they showed to him and Bartlett.

“We will work hard to continue to build upon the foundation that has been built over the past 12 years,” Walter said in the news release. “We are looking forward to the 2022 season and implementing the many changes to improve the Dodd Stadium atmosphere for the employees, players and the great fans and sponsors in Norwich and all of eastern Connecticut who have continued to support the Sea Unicorns.”

The Dodd Stadium front office and ticket box office are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (860) 887-7962 or go to www.goseaunicorns.com.
