Food distribution to be held Friday in Groton
Groton — The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center will hold a free, drive-thru mobile pantry food distribution 12:30-2:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Christian Church, 346 Shennecossett Road.
The distribution, which will include fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins, breakfast items, snacks and other nonperishables, will be accessible both for drive-thru or walk-up visitors, according to a news release.
"Anyone in need of food is welcome to attend and no paperwork is necessary," the release states. "Guests are asked to remain in their car and open their trunk where volunteers can place the food boxes. Everyone must wear a mask and practice all COVID-19 safety protocols."
UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring the distribution.
The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center provides food to free emergency food programs in the region and runs the Mobile Pantry, "at no cost to those in need," according to the release. United Way also supports 2-1-1 Connecticut, which provides information and referrals "24/7," and Project Warm-up, which provides "one-time, emergency heating assistance."
