Groton town councilors to discuss data centers over coffee with the public Saturday

Groton — A “Coffee with Groton Town Councilors” event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Groton Public Library, according to a notice.

The topic is a data center conversation with Flanders Road neighbors and Town Councilors Melinda Cassiere, Rachael Franco, Bruce Jones and Town Mayor Juan Melendez Jr., and Town Manager John Burt, according to the event notice posted on the town website.

NE Edge LLC under manager Thomas Quinn has requested that the town approve a host fee agreement for one or more data centers on land south of Interstate 95 between Hazelnut Hill and Flanders roads and above Groton Open Space Association's Sheep Farm and Sheep Farm South properties.

Burt said last week, after a public presentation was held on the proposal, that he anticipates the council will continue to gather input and review potential agreement language before making any decisions. This week Burt said he is working with Quinn on updating language in the proposed host agreement using ideas from the council as well as the public.

“Once this version is completed, it will be brought back to the council for another review,” he said.

He didn’t have a firm date yet, and it is not on the agenda for Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
