In the Galleries: Three Rivers professor presents ‘Between Realms’ at NAC

Sandra Jeknavorian, professor of art at Three Rivers Community College, will present an intriguing one-artist exhibit at Norwich Arts Center in April.

The exhibit, titled “Between Realms,” consists of a remarkable display of cross-media artistic talent, new works in three mediums or modes of working: charcoal/pastel drawings, shadowbox assemblages and plein air paintings.

“Much of the work lies between two realms of seeing,” Jeknavorian says, “abstractly and representationally combining, to different degrees, naturalistic imagery with dreamlike imagery.”

As a professor of art at Three Rivers, Jeknavorian is also program coordinator of visual fine arts and director of the gallery there. Her work has earned her a Distinguished Service Award in Art Education from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. Two of her paintings hang in the U.S. embassy in Armenia.

Norwich Arts Center has two galleries. Gallery One, where “Between Realms” will land, is dedicated to monthly exhibits with either a thematic unity or a one-artist presentation. Gallery Two features the work of local artists and also art-level artisan crafts such as cards, jewelry and books.

The galleries are open Thursday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

“Between Realms” will be shown throughout April, with an opening reception coinciding with Norwich’s monthly First Friday celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 1.
