    New London Elks to honor Elk, Citizen of the Year

    New London — The New London Elks will hold its annual Elk of the Year dinner on April 23 and plans to honor Dillon Rivera as Elk of the Year for his contributions to the social and charitable fraternal organization.

    Rena Powers of East Lyme, founder of The Blue Door, is the Citizen of the Year. The Blue Door receives donated medical equipment, refurbishes it and donates it, along with clothing and other supplies, to those in need. Debra Sargent will be honored as the Elks Officer of the Year.

    The New London Elks is composed of men and women from New London, Montville, Waterford and East Lyme.

    The dinner starts at 5 p.m. at the Elks lodge at 81 Washington St. in New London. Tickets are $18 and are available online at elks360.org, or by calling the lodge at (860) 442-0235 Wednesday through Saturday after 5 p.m. No tickets will be available at the door.
