    Going bald for a cause

    The cast and crew of the Norwich Free Academy Playshop production of “Annie” feel the bald head of senior Alexander Zeppieri after he had his head shaved by them Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Slater Auditorium. Zeppieri plays the role of Daddy Warbucks in the show and agreed to shave his head for the role in exchange for donations to the Telesz Teen Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital. After Zeppieri’s co-star, Lily O’Neil, who plays the title role, got the clipping started, other members of the cast who also donated to the cause took turns. Lisa and Anthony, Zeppieri, Alex’s parents, also helped. The original goal was $500 but as of the shaving donations had reached $1,000. Zeppieri and his family are headed to Florida for spring break next week where he hopes to even the tan on his now bare scalp. The show runs April 28-30. (Sean D. Elliot/The Day)

    Norwich Free Academy senior Alexander Zeppieri parted with all his hair Thursday.

    His castmates from the NFA Playshop production of "Annie" took turns with the clippers shearing his abundant locks for two causes, his role as Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, and the Telesz Teen Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital.

    Zeppieri agreed to shave his head for the role in exchange for donations to the charity that provides a place for hospital-bound teens and young adults to go to socialize, explore, imagine and grow.

    After Zeppieri's co-star, Lily O'Neil, who plays the title role, got the clipping started, and other members of the cast who also donated to the cause took turns.

    Lisa and Anthony Zeppieri, Alex's parents, also helped.

    The original funding goal was $500 but as of the shaving donations had reached $1,000.

    Zeppieri and his family are headed to Florida for spring break next week where he hopes to even the tan on his now bare scalp.

    The show runs April 28-30.
