State Rep. Conley receives Democratic endorsement

Groton — State Rep. Christine Conley, D-Groton, who is running for her fourth term representing the 40th House district, announced Wednesday she received the Democratic party's endorsement in a unanimous vote.

Conley, a Groton resident and attorney at Embry Neusner Arscott & Shafner, noted in a news release that her motto is: "Working together gets better results than being at odds.”

She wrote that she continues to collaborate with state officials, neighboring towns, businesses, and organizations to have southeastern Connecticut recognized not only as a tourist destination but as a place where many families live. The region therefore requires more funding from Hartford.

“I am running to go to Hartford and to strengthen relationships with the state and businesses in order to keep our skilled workers employed, our schools funded, improve our infrastructure, and restore confidence to the middle class,” Conley said in a statement.

The release said Conley has been an advocate for women’s health and workplace equality and was instrumental in drafting legislation to require health insurance coverage for preexisting health conditions. She also helped usher in legislation to support jobs at Electric Boat, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Millstone and to fund the manufacturing pipeline.

Under newly reconfigured districts, the 40th district will cover parts of Groton and New London.
