Waterford RTM member endorsed by Democrats for 38th House District seat

Waterford — Nicholas Gauthier, a two-term Waterford Representative Town Meeting member, announced Thursday that he accepted the endorsement of Waterford and Montville Democrats to run for the 38th state House District on Nov. 8.

With the reconfiguration of House seats after redistricting, the 38th District will cover Waterford and parts of the Uncasville and Oakdale sections of Montville.

Gauthier said he received unanimous support of delegates during a virtual nominating convention on Wednesday.

“I am proud and honored to have received the unanimous endorsement of Waterford and Montville Democrats for state Representative in the 38th assembly district," he said in a statement. "As I made clear in my campaign announcement and again reiterated in my convention acceptance speech, I am running for this office to serve our constituents in need in Waterford, Montville, and Connecticut to provide robust constituent services, demand justice for all in our state’s laws, seek equity in our state’s budgets, deliver state resources for our needed public services, and support well-paid employment opportunities."

Gauthier, 35, is a Waterford native and currently works in the town's Senior Services Department. He holds a master’s degree in public administration, and has served as an activist, labor organizer and grassroots and community organizer, according to his statement.

The seat is currently held by four-term incumbent state Rep. Kathleen McCarty, R-Waterford.
