Meeting planned for Age Friendly Groton Action Plan

Groton — The town will hold a public meeting on a draft Age Friendly Groton Action Plan at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Thrive 55+ Active Living Center.

Groton was designated last year as an AARP Age Friendly Community. "Membership in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities means that a community's elected leadership has made a commitment to actively work with residents and local advocates to make Groton a more age-friendly place to live," Town of Groton Planner Tabitha Harkin said in a statement. "Our working group has made strides to begin identifying areas where positive change could be made. Now, we need to hear from the residents of Groton to see if we got it right."

The plan has identified goals and action steps to improve "outdoor spaces, transportation, housing, social participation, community health, social inclusion, employment and volunteerism, and communication," according to a news release.

"Each topic will be discussed with opportunity to comment," the release states. "Additionally, a 20 question survey is available online and will be made available in paper copy at the event."

"The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and communities was established in April 2012 as an independent affiliate of the World Health Organization Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities," according to the news release.
