Route 164 in Preston, Griswold slated for roadwork

A milling and resurfacing project on Route 164 in Preston and Griswold is expected to start in mid-June and prompt lane closures.

The milling on a 7.38-mile segment of the road is scheduled to begin Monday, June 13, and last until Wednesday, July 6, according to a news release from state Rep. Mike France, R-Ledyard. The resurfacing is expected to take place from Monday, July 11, through Friday, Aug. 5.

Work is expected to be performed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during the project, the release said. However, no work will be conducted July 1 through July 5 due to the Independence Day holiday.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions," the release said.

Drivers are advised to expect lane closures from Route 2 in Preston through the end of Route 164 in Griswold and to maintain safe speeds through the work zones. Signs and traffic control personnel will guide vehicles in these areas, according to the release.

This project is part of the state Department of Transportation’s 2022 Vendor Resurfacing Program.
