Let's Go: Newbery Medal-winning author Jerry Craft coming to Waterford

    New Kid, by Jerry Craft.

The Waterford Public Library will host a presentation by popular children’s author Jerry Craft at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22. Craft will speak about his life and what inspired him to write and illustrate his graphic novels, “New Kid and Class Act.” There will be an opportunity to ask questions, meet the author and get a book signed.

This event is being held in the auditorium at Waterford High School at 20 Rope Ferry Road.

The library’s bookseller partner, Bank Square Books, will be on site to sell books.

Jerry Craft is the New York Times bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning author of the graphic novel, “New Kid.” His second graphic novel, “Class Act,” was published in October 2020. Craft is also the creator of “Mama’s Boyz,” an award-winning comic strip which won the African American Literary Award five times. He is a co-founder of the Schomburg Center’s Annual Black Comic Book Festival. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts.

This event is supported from an American Rescue Plan Humanities Grant for Libraries. Visit the Children’s Room at the Waterford Public Library to enter a raffle to receive one of 50 free copies of “New Kid.”
