Be An Angel: Run to Home Base helps support traumatized veterans

For me, it started in 2014, when a friend from high school who convinced me to join the Army with him in 1983 committed suicide.

We both served and got out of the Army honorably, but he was struggling and I had no clue.

Beginning early in 2015, Electric Boat co-sponsored a team for “Run To Home Base” with GD Mission Systems to fundraise and raise awareness in support of traumatized veterans.

For the past eight years with friends and co-workers at Electric Boat we have been fielding a team always supported by the upper management of the company and the members of the Marine Draftsmen Association Local 571, part of the United Auto Workers union.

Run To Home Base works to restore veterans to their lives, families and to get them back to working within their community. To date RTHB has helped 30,000-plus veterans and their families free of cost to regain their lives through medical and clinical services.

This year Electric Boat and the MDA Local are co-sponsoring our team named “Fast Attack.”

On July 30, a team of 30 GD Electric Boat employees, MDA members, family and friends will hop on a chartered bus and head up to Fenway Park to run or walk out of Fenway Park in support of traumatized veterans of both yesterday and today.

As of today our team has raised online $17,421 along with sponsorships totaling $7,752 that will be added by July 21.

We need your support to get the word out that we are fundraising for our Veterans and would like your support. Here are our Team Fund raising links:
