New London — The North American Currach Association will hold its annual regatta Saturday starting at noon at Custom House Pier at the city’s Waterfront Park.

The event is free and open to the public.

At least six teams will be competing in the rowing regatta using the currach, a traditional wood-frame Irish boat. At the conclusion of the event at 5 p.m. there will be a Bushmills Peaky Blinders party at the Irish pub Forty Thieves, at 171 Bridge St. in Groton, followed by an awards ceremony at 8 p.m.

In advance of Saturday’s regatta, on Friday at 3 p.m., there will be a showing of the "Brendan Voyage," a film about a small crew that attempted to recreate the North Atlantic Ocean voyage of Saint Brendan, at the Custom House Maritime Museum at 150 Bank St. A currach will be on display at the rear of the museum.
