Old Lyme ― A swimming advisory is in effect at Rogers Lake (Hains Park) due to high levels of bacteria, and swimming is discouraged until further notice, Ledge Light Health District announced Tuesday.

Rain or other contamination events occurring before the Monday sampling may have contributed to higher bacterial counts, Ledge Light noted, as inland swimming areas and places with stormwater runoff are particularly susceptible to higher bacterial counts after rainfall.

The health district said it will re-sample on Wednesday and results will be available Thursday.

Ledge Light conducts weekly water sampling Memorial Day through Labor Day at swimming areas in East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, New London, Old Lyme, Stonington and Waterford.
