    Driver extricated from race car at New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night

    Waterford ― A driver sustained minor injuries during a crash at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night and had to be transported to the hospital, according to Waterford police.

    Sergeant Patrick Flanagan said the incident happened in the course of racing and involved a crash. He said the driver had to be cut out of the car since the door would not open.

    At around 7:45 p.m., Flanagan said EMS and police stationed at the speedbowl responded to the incident.

    He said no one else was injured in the crash. The driver was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. The current conditions of the driver is unknown at this time.

    A second accident occurred at around 10:30 p.m., also in the course of racing.

    Flanagan said one driver was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with minor injuries as a result. No other injuries were reported.

    The New London-Waterford Speedbowl was hosting a “Thunder on the Sound” event on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
