    League of Women Voters hosts Friday night debate in New London

    New London ― The League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut, a non-partisan organization, is hosting a debate here Friday night and has two additional upcoming debates leading up to Election Day.

    The first debate is at 7 p.m. Friday at the city’s Science and Technology Magnet High School at 490 Jefferson Ave. in partnership with the New London chapter of the NAACP.

    The state representative candidates in the debate are: Democrat Nicholas Gauthier and Republican Kathleen McCarty in the 38th District; Democrat Anthony Nolan and Republican Karen Paul in the 39th District; state representative candidates Lauren Gauthier, a member of the Independent Party, and Democrat Christine Conley in the 40th District and Republican Holly Cheeseman and Democrat Nicholas Menapace in the 37th District.

    The League of Women Voters has two more debates this month.

    In partnership with The Day, a debate is scheduled Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center in New London between District 2 Congressional candidates Democrat Joe Courtney, Republican Robert France and Green Party candidate Kevin Blacker. Tickets for the free event are available at the Garde Arts Center box office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    The final debate will take place at Norwich Free Academy on Oct. 19 in collaboration with NAACP Robertsine Duncan Youth Council, the NFA Young Voters Society and the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce.

    At 6 p.m., Democrat Cathy Osten and Republican Pietro “Rocky” Camardella will debate as candidates for state senator in the 19th District.

    At 7 p.m., candidates for house of representatives will debate: Republican Robert Bell and Democrat Derrell Wilson for the 46th District; Democrat David Nowakowski and Republican Doug Dubitsky for the 47th District; and Republican Mark Adams and Democrat Kevin Ryan for the 139th District.

    The public can submit questions for the candidates for all the debates by sending an email to info.lwvsect@gmail.com at least three days prior to the debate.

    Editor’s note: this version corrects the party affiliation of Lauren Gauthier and is updated to indicate she and Conley will not be apart of the debate Friday night.
